Top 5 We Are Hunted tracks this week

We Are Hunted is one of my favorite new music discovery sites. It’s a chart site of the top 99 songs on the web right now. I have spent hours listening to the 99 songs on the chart today and slowly knocked it down to my top 5.

Here’s my top 5

Cloud Control – Death Cloud

‘A less commercial, more raw indie sounding version of Temper Trap’

It’s on free download on the Cloud Control facebook page as well

Dog Is Dead -Hands Down

‘Catchy indie pop from the UK, WIN!’

Zomby – Labyrinth

‘One of my favorite producers, make sure you go and listen to ‘where

were u in 92?’

The Jungle Giants – Mr Polite

‘Some more indie pop for you. Plus they list Cloud Control (number 1          on the list) as an influence , can only equal good’
ASAP Rocky – Out Of This World
‘Finally some rap from Harlem, NY, Rocky pulls his influences from       various genre’s, ultimately bringing afresh new sound to rap/ hip hop’

The Supernovas (One to Watch)

The Supernovas are a Rock’n’Roll band from North London. Their music and their image is similar to the mod culture but they mix in modern day indie and cut the bullshit lyrics which gives their songs a fresh new sound. In January 2009 they signed to 360 Degree Music, In the past they have toured with Babyshambles and Guillemots to name a few (supporting Tribes tonight as well, wish I was there) They have also played at such festivals as Glastonbury and Lattitude.

The first track I have for you is ‘Ace Face’ it came out way back in 2009. I would say it’s one of my favorite songs by the band because it reminds me of a lot of my favorite punk songs from back 3-4 years ago when I was into that scene.

The second track is ‘City of Smoke’ which came out in 2010 and has more of a rock n roll sound. What really stands out in my opinion is the lyrics, they’re so simple and straightforward but they are catchy and emotional as well. Similar to how I also feel about ‘Frank Turner’s’ lyrics.

The final song “MDMA’ is a newer song (it’s only been on their soundcloud page for 9 days). It’s catchy, Lyrics are funny and truthful, and it’s suitable for moshing, pogo and skanking. I’m glad these guys followed me on twitter now 🙂

P.S …I have the flu and my head is struggling to form sentences or deal with grammar so if this reads badly it’s not my fault!

Bos Angeles (One To Watch)

BANDCAMP

Straight out of Boscombe ( somewhere near Bournemouth ) comes Bos Angeles a 3 piece band consisting of Dick, Ben and George who use to make ice cream before forming the band! They describe themselves as Grunge/Surf and their influences include the beach boys and nirvana. This is all the info I can find about this band, without totally ripping off fellow bloggers which is the last thing I want to do. Quite strange for this day and age.

When I first heard their song Beach Slalom I thought of a mix of Morrisey (The Smiths era) style vocals and instrumentals similar to The Drums. Although I feel I have to mention that it took much quicker to fall in love with Bos Angeles ( for me) compared to The Drums, which took months after first hearing them. What you are left with is beautifully moody northen style vocals with a surf rock style danceable beat making it perfect for both summer days at the beach or a pick me up for when the weather aint so nice.

Here’s ‘demo’ from their bandcamp page, includes the tracks Beach Slalom, June and Days of Youth

Annie Mac hosts the 7-9 friday night show and sunday night’s  10- 12 show with Nick Grimshaw on BBC Radio 1. She’s also a well established live DJ taking her ‘Annie Mac Presents’ tour up and down the country since 2009, playing some of the best clubs the UK has to offer, as well as playing some of the top UK festivals and sets at the legend that is IBIZA. It is at her live shows that Annie really shines, if you have had the privilege of  experiencing one of her shows then you will find no matter how many drug addled strangers you fill your living room with and no matter how loud you play this it out, it will still not quite live up to your expectations! What you need to remember is this is an album and of course will never be good as the live experience (or maybe thats just something that I need to remember)
The best part of the album and the main reason I have been buying them for the last 3 years is the two mixes, I know from both past experience and the two listens I had in the early hours of this morning that I will still be blasting them out in a years time at any pre drinking before a night out event, house party, wedding reception and family party (not always well received at these, my family don’t have the best taste in music) that I grace with my attendance. If anything has the power to make me belive i’m in a sweaty club, paying ridiculous amounts for a watered down G&T it’s an Annie Mac mix.
The rest of the tracklisting itself is in no way bad and I would hate for anyone to assume so, there is some absolute blinders in there for example one of the biggest and best tracks to be played in multiple clubs this year, The 2 Bears – Bear Hug “All you out there on the floor / Gonna get you in my paws / And give you a bear hug” this song has added a bit of class to many a crappy club for a while now. Another favorite would have to be Bombay Bicycle Club – Shuffle (Leo Zero Remix) the original song was a big indie hit this year, and as good as it was Leo Zero’s remixed version has made this a song thats extremely danceable and doubly as catchy as the original. Other notable tracks include Rusko – Everyday, one of his many tracks that puts the ‘fun’ back into dubstep. Toddla T – Take It Back, from one of my favorite artists of 2011 who has been going from strength to strength this year and can only get better. Finally Adele – Rolling In The Deep (Jamie XX Remix), the best of many remixes of this song if I had a hat I would take it off to Jamie XX.
Certain more overplayed songs on the album such as Calvin Harris – Bounce, Katy B – Broken Record and Nero – Guilt, I will choose to skip on my next listen not because they’re bad songs although they’re also not the best, but simply because I live in home where the radio is on all day every day and so have heard them so many times their novelty has worn off now. For you I hope this is not the case.
Overall I would recommend you do buy this album as ultimately it’s positives outweigh the negatives and it’s packed full of songs that if you don’t know yet, then you should really get to know. Oh and make sure you go and see Annie Mac live as well, I promise you wont regret it.

Random Impulse (One To Watch)

Mixing genre’s is a brave thing to do and when done well it’s a fresh breath of air, and Random Impulse certainly does it well. His mix of grime and indie rock style electric guitar riffs work together well and leave you with clever and catchy songs that’ll you will find hard to resist.

Jovel Walker also known as Random Impulse is not only an artist he’s also a producer and engineer. In the past he has worked with Lupe Fiasco, Chipmunk and Tinie Tempah to many only a few. His song Overload has been played on Radio 1,6,xtra by such dj’s as Trevor Nelson, Mistajam and Steve Lamacq making him definitely one to watch.

Here is his most well known song ‘Overload’ the video was first shown on SB.TV’s youtube channel back in January and it’s good so go check it out.

Next up is a track called ‘Still They Sing’ the lyrics in this really relate to me because i’m one of them people who sings along to songs they’ve never heard before (especially when i’ve had a few drinks)

Finally here is the ‘No Sleep For Winners EP Preview’ it’s only 4 days old so you can brag to your mates who aren’t as up to date

The Best of… Film Soundtracks

500 Days of Summer

This is a lovely collection of moody indie including such greats as Belle & Sebastian and The Smiths. The later of which is possibly one of the best bands of all time, with strangely uplifting songs and brilliantly written lyrics (EXAMPLE “and if a ten ton truck kills the both of us, to die by your side,well, the pleasure – the privilege is mine.”) Throw in some more new school popular songs such as;

Temper Trap – Sweet Disposition

Jack Penate – Have I Been A Fool ( never been a fan but can’t help but like this song )

Wolfmother – Vagabond

Mumm-Rah – She’s Got You High ( possibly may be in every film , tv show and advert ever made )

Overall you have an enjoyable soundtrack which should be in every music fans collection, Oh and if you haven’t make sure you watch the film.

Unmade Beds

This soundtrack is from a charming little indie film about a couple of young adults squating in a warehouse in London. The tracks aren’t the most well known but there isn’t a bad track at all and there are some gems that will get themselves stuck on your top played playlist on itunes for a long time.My top 3 are;

Good Shoes – We Are Not The Same

Daniel Johnston – My Life Is Starting Over Again

Mary and the Boy – Fuck Me

All in all this soundtrack is cool, modern and fresh. A nice change from the over used over known songs on most soundtracks.

Kick Ass

Possibly my favorite film of 2010 but definitely my favorite soundtrack of the year. It helps that it’s full with some amazing artists, The Prodigy, New York Dolls and The Dickies. Hell they’ve even got some Elvis on there! The only let down to the soundtrack is the title song by Mika, fair play it’s bloody catchy but my god it’s CRAP. Luckily songs such as The Prodigy – Stand Up and The Hit Girls – Bad Reputation brings it right back to excellence.

The DOT

Mike Skinner (formally from The Streets) and Rob Harvey from The Music have teamed up to form a new band The DOT.

Not much info is available on them yet but they have posted 14 songs up on their website and on first listen they seem pretty good. Enjoy

I haven’t posted in this in over a month due to a serious lack of motivation and too much alcohol consumption.
Still I’ve decided that instead of giving up totally and letting this blog get lost in the background of the interweb, I’m gunna give it one last go.

Get ready to hear some banging new tunes and to discover some new favourite bands

BRACE YOURSELF, I’M BACK

Ed Banger Records

I first planned on writing this post on sunday but due to apple making sexy but crap products I currently have no way to charge my Macbook, so i’m using my brothers chunky, heavy and slow windows laptop (i’m not sure how people cope with windows 7) So even though I have about 4 solid post ideas a day i’m only roughly getting one done every three days! Of course the biggest issue is the lack of new music making it on to my ipod 😦

My tech problems aside since I decided to write this post DJ MEHDI of ed banger records unfortuanlly passed away

May his music live on. RIP
